Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Your manuscript has not been previously published, nor has been sent to another journal.
  • Submitted files follow author guidelines of the journal.
  • Text has been written according to gender equality criteria and inclusive language has been used.

Author Guidelines

Preparation of the original manuscript

The journal Mayurqa will publish research papers on all areas of History and Art History, without geographical or chronological limits.

Texts should preferably be written in Catalan or Spanish. Articles in English, French, Italian, Portuguese or French can also be accepted.

Texts must be submitted in digital format (.doc, .odt or similar). No .pdf files will be accepted.

Paper must include:

  • Caption. The title, author's name, ORCID, work center and e-mail address should be included. If the paper is not written in English, a translation of the title in English must be included.
  • Abstract. It will be written in the language of the paper and in English. It will have a maximum length of 100 words and will include objectives, methodology and results.
  • Keywords. It will include 5 keywords written in the language of the article and in English. They must be separated by commas.
  • Body of the text. It will follow an academic structure and will clearly explain the objectives, the methodology and the results of the research. The text will be subdivided into headings which will be in bold, lower case and unnumbered. There will be no sub-headings.
  • Bibliography. A bibliographic list will be included with all the references used, which will follow the bibliographic standards indicated below.

 

Types and length of papers

-Papers for the ‘Miscellaneous’ section. This section comprises research articles on all areas of History and Art History, with no geographical or chronological limits. Length: 5,000-7,000 words.

-Papers for the ‘Documents’ section. They will consist of a transcription (complete or partial) of historical texts or the reproduction of unpublished and particularly relevant graphic documents, preceded by a critical study by the author that implements a new contribution to scientific knowledge. Length: critical study (1,000-3,000 words) accompanied by the transcribed document (4,000-6,000 words) or the reproduction of the graphic source.

-Reviews. Priority will be given to those that refer to recently published works. Length: 1,000-1,500 words.

*Length indicated for articles does not include title, abstracts or keywords.

 

Those interested in publishing news may submit a text of between 1,000 and 2,000 words. News will be published on the website of the Department of Historical Sciences and Theory of the Arts of the Universitat de les Illes Balears.

 

Images & tables

Papers may contain tables, graphs, maps and images, but only the essential ones and never more than ten.

They must always be numbered according to their typology (Table 1, Image 1). They must always have a caption with the word Source: in brackets and an indication of the source.

Tables and graphs must be included in the text.

Maps and images must be submitted separately from the text and in image format (tiff, jpg or vector) with a resolution of 300 dpi and a minimum size of 13 x 18 cm. Authors must indicate where images are to be inserted in the text by writing a separate paragraph in square brackets with the text: [Image 1].

 

Submission process

To submit articles and check their status, authors have to register on the journal's website. Once registered with the role of ‘author’, they have to attach their papers in ‘Online submissions’.

The articles will be sent following the following indications:

1. For evaluation:

  • File in .doc, .odt or similar format without any reference to the author within the text (name, surname, e-mail, affiliation nor any other data that could make him/her recognisable, such as acknowledgements or references to funding.

2. For possible publication:

  • File in .doc, odt or similar format with all the author's data (name and surname, e-mail, affiliation) and all data referring to acknowledgements and sources of funding. In other words, the full version.

 

Citations and bibliography

A complete bibliographical list should be added at the end of the paper. In the body of the text, footnotes should be placed at the bottom of the page and their number and length should not hinder reading.

Bibliographical and documentary footnotes should follow the following scheme:

  • Books: Author's surname and first name (year of publication), Title of the book. Place of publication: publisher, and, in the case of footnotes, the pages to which reference is made.

For footnotes, in case of mentioning and already cited work, it will be written as follows:

  • Author’s surname and name (year of publication), Three first words, op. cit., cited pages.

  • If the footnote refers to the previous one: Ibid., p. 87-89.

 

In the case of online documents such as scientific journal articles, digital or digitised press, the permanent identifier (DOI or handle) or the URL should be included at the end of the reference.

Research data

We recommend that authors deposit their research data in a data repository such as CORA.RDR. If done, authors must attach the permanent link (DOI, handle, or similar) of the data to the submission.

Names and e-mail addresses on the journal website shall only be used for those purposes stated in this journal and shall not be available for any other use or by third parties.
