Abstract

Resumen:The difficult appendicular stump does not currently have a standard management protocol, there is still no agreed definition for this presentation, among its most frequent complications there is appendicitis of the stump, so the surgeon must know the different types of stump closure including advantages, disadvantages and costs related to the use of the different devices, since it must be easily applicable and cost effective. This leads to decrease the morbidity and mortality of the patient associated with this pathology and increase its availability in centers with limited resources. We present the case of a patient with no significant history, who attended the emergency department with abdominal pain plus clinical and paraclinical signs suggestive of acute appendicitis. Surgical management was performed with an open appendectomy due to the unavailability of laparoscopy with surgical findings of an ultrashort cecal appendix, and finally closure was made with a tobacco bag suture.
